Photo album for people living with dementia: Tribu receives Certification-D quality label

Can a photo bring back memories? At Tribu, we believe it can. And now that belief has been officially recognised with the Certification‑D quality label. Awarded by people living with dementia, for people living with dementia, this label confirms that our photo album truly makes a difference in the daily lives of older adults with memory loss.

What is Certification‑D?

Between 2018 and 2050, the number of people living with dementia in Northwest Europe is expected to rise from 3.3 to 8.5 million. The care system can’t keep up with that pace. That’s why the Certification‑D project aims to evaluate and recognise products that genuinely support independent and dignified living at home. The key objectives: – Help people with dementia live independently at home for longer, – Support families in making better choices when it comes to care tools, – Encourage businesses to develop high-quality solutions.

Why does a photo album help with dementia?

Studies show that:

  • Familiar faces and places stimulate visual memory,

  • A tangible, personalised book brings calm and reassurance,

  • It strengthens connection between relatives and caregivers,

  • A photo album supports orientation, identity, and a sense of belonging.

Tribu’s involvement in the project

Tribu participated in the Certification‑D project in Belgium. We wanted to see if our family albums could also have a positive impact on people living with dementia. During tests conducted in so-called Living Labs, our albums were evaluated by:

  • People living with dementia themselves,

  • Their relatives,

  • Professional caregivers.

The results were extremely positive.

Tribu was officially tested within the Certification‑D project and is listed as a certified product on the European project page.

Why look for a unique Christmas gift for grandparents?

Every Christmas, it’s the same dilemma: what should we get Grandma and Grandpa? They already have everything, don’t really want anything… and still, we want to make them smile, make it special, reconnect.

As the years go by, material things matter less. What lasts are the emotions. A unique gift for a grandparent isn’t just another object on the shelf — it’s a gesture that brings joy, sparks a memory, shows a familiar face, a moment worth keeping.

👉 Giving a unique gift at Christmas means creating connection. It’s a different way of saying “I’m thinking of you.”

How to choose a great Christmas gift for your grandparents?

Here are a few tips to help you get it right:

  • Think about their daily life: do they live alone? Are they mobile? Are they comfortable with digital tools?
  • Focus on emotion rather than wow effect: something simple that touches the heart.
  • Make delivery easy: avoid anything bulky or hard to unpack.
  • Encourage family connection: collaborative or group gifts are often a big hit.

And most importantly: pick something they can use easily, without needing tech support. The goal is to make them feel independent — and loved.

Top 5 unique Christmas gifts for grandparents

1. The printed Tribu family album – a shared treasure

This is THE gift that never fails. With Tribu, you create a printed album filled with photos, messages, and memories, and send it to your grandparents — monthly if you like.

  • Super easy: the whole family can contribute right from their phone.

  • High quality: full-color printing on soft-touch paper, ready to flip through.

  • No screens: perfect for grandparents who aren’t online.

Tribu is a gift that tells your family’s story, page after page — and brings a smile every time they read it.

2. An illustrated family tree to build together

Turn your family story into a piece of decor. Many online workshops and shops let you create an artistic family tree, personalized with names, photos, and fun little anecdotes.

It’s a creative way to celebrate your family roots, share memories, and brighten up their living room.

Bonus: it’s often a fun project that grandkids love building together.

3. A collaborative memory box

Grab a nice box (metal, wood, recycled cardboard…) and ask each family member to add:

  • A photo or a drawing

  • A handwritten note

  • A symbolic object (seed, ticket, shell…)

Offer it on Christmas Eve, and open it together. We guarantee tears (of joy).

4. A workshop or class to enjoy together

What if, instead of a thing, you offered a shared experience? Traditional cooking class, pottery workshop, singing or dance session, private guided tour… There are so many great options.

The real gift is quality time. Something to enjoy together, or to offer as a duo with another family member.

🎁 And why not a gift voucher with a lovely printed card?

5. A family video capsule

Each family member records a short video message: anecdotes, thanks, memories, songs…

We compile everything, put it on a USB stick or a mini tablet, and wrap it up. When opened: surprise, emotion, laughter… and often, a tissue.

It’s a modern, yet deeply human way to say “we love you.”

Why does the Tribu album touch hearts so much?

Among all these gifts, Tribu stands out for several reasons.

First, because it combines emotion, simplicity, and collaboration. No need to be tech-savvy to use it. Everything happens online, in just a few clicks, and it’s printed on paper.

Next, because it’s regular. Every month, grandparents receive a little snapshot of family life. And that is priceless.

Finally, because it’s a collective project. No more WhatsApp groups where no one reads anything. With Tribu, you create a real intergenerational bond that lasts.

📬 More than 10,000 families already use it to stay close, even from afar.

Conclusion & call to action

Giving a unique Christmas gift to your grandparents isn’t about finding the most complicated idea. It’s about choosing what really matters: family, memories, connections.

With Tribu, you create a printed family album to flip through, keep, and pass down. A surprise that delights today… and even more tomorrow.

6 IDEAS TO FEEL YOUR FAMILY

ALBUM CREATIVELY

Sometimes there are months with fewer photos or fewer special moments to capture. Don’t worry! There are plenty of ways to fill your family album with beautiful memories. Here are 6 simple and fun ideas to enrich your album, even in the quieter months.

Birthday Page

Whether it’s a wedding anniversary, a child’s birthday, or a family member’s celebration, this is the perfect opportunity to add a special page to your family album. Create a “calendar page” listing all the special moments to celebrate that month! It’s also a great place to note upcoming family gatherings. This ensures that everyone adds these dates to their calendars. Such a page will add an extra personal touch to your Tribu! And the best part? This inspiration for filling your family album is super easy to add.

A Photo of Your Workspace

Your family knows you inside and out, but they probably have no idea what your workspace looks like! We rarely think about capturing our workdays, even though we spend dozens of hours a week there. Add a photo of your desk, a completed project, or a lovely moment with colleagues to bring a nice contrast to your family album. You can also write funny or special anecdotes about your work.
These memories will later offer an interesting perspective on how you balanced work and home life in your family!

back in time

Photos of past memories are a great idea! Why not add a section titled “Three Years Ago, We Were Here”? Select photos taken around the same time of year, but a few years ago. Whether it was a trip, a special event, or just a cozy family moment, these photos allow you to relive those memories and show how your family has evolved over time. And why not recreate one of those photos a few years later? Tip: You can easily find your old photos in the albums in your archives!

    Little Artists: Crafts and Drawings

Children love to create, and their artwork can be a valuable addition to your family album. Whether it’s drawings, crafts, or even their first creations in clay, capture their creativity! On one hand, this highlights their artistic progress. On the other hand, it’s a great way to remember their passions and imagination at a particular point in their lives. You can also take photos of them while they’re creating these works of art and add them to your album. Hats off to the little artists!

Who Is Who? The Costume Game

Organize a fun family game where each family member dresses up: Grandma has to guess who’s who when she receives her family album! Take photos of the costumes and add a bit of humor by writing funny anecdotes or clues. In addition to delighting Grandma, all members of the Tribu can join in and discover the costumes of others!

    A Little Logic

Looking for ideas or want to add some fun? Why not include logical games in your family album? For example, a Sudoku or a homemade crossword puzzle could be a fun way to stimulate everyone’s mind. Here are two resources where you can create these games:

And there you have it! These simple yet creative ideas will help you fill your Family Album in a varied and fun way. Remember, every little moment counts, and even the quietest months can be filled with valuable memories. So, grab your cameras and pens, and let the creativity shine in your Tribu!
