GRANDPARENTS, THE PILLARS OF THE FAMILY

GRANDPARENTS, THE PILLARS OF THE FAMILY

GRANDPARENTS, THE PILLARS OF THE FAMILY

Grandparents are a real pillar for children and an important ally for parents. They play an important role in the often animated life of a family. Grandparents are a source of stability, education and tenderness. They are an essential support for the parents and we fully trust them.

At a time when the number of mixed or single-parent families is constantly increasing, the role of grandparents is significant. They embody stability. They are often the ones who cherish the family memories (family photos, family home, etc.). They are the guardians of the family foundations and they are the ones who pass on fundamental values such as family, loyalty, respect, tradition, etc.

Grandparents can play the role of complementary educators. They are further away from our hectic pace of life and have the time and patience to take care of their grandchildren’s education. Their role is not to replace or contradict the parents but to support and accompany them.

The role of transmitting knowledge to the child is played by the grandparent. They are often the ones who teach particular skills to the youngest: fishing, cooking, knitting, gardening, etc. This type of activity allows for exchanges and discussions, the child is free to express himself and he develops his open-mindedness.

Finally, grandparents do not only give, they also receive a lot from their grandchildren: happiness, a feeling of usefulness, but also concrete learning. Grandparents who are in close relation with their grandchildren remain in contact with a generation and an era that are no longer their own. The role of the grandchildren is also to guide the grandparents in this new connected world.

Don’t forget to thank them!
If you have the opportunity to visit them, this is what will make them the happiest. Once there, organise an activity to strengthen your ties; go to an exhibition, go to the theatre, play a board game, cook a grandmother’s recipe, etc. Moreover, age does not reduce some people’s passion for gossip. Grandmothers love to know everything about every member of the family. Let them ask you hundreds of questions, talk about everything and anything… without moderation!

To make your visits to your grandparents even more lively, send them a Tribu album (www.mytribunews.com) every month! It allows you to put pictures to your stories, to remember them the next day and of course to be able to tell the stories of each (grand) child to all the other family members.

If you can’t visit them, at least think about making a phone call from time to time. Or at best, send them a letter or a postcard. Old-fashioned, you might say? Good for you! Grandparents aren’t exactly known for being “fashionable”. And that’s why we love them so much.

WRITER’S BLOCK

WRITER’S BLOCK

WRITER’S BLOCK

Being the author or your family newspaper every month, you might experience what we sometimes call a ‘Writer’s block’. That’s okay, it happens to the best of us. Some people are overflowing with photos or ideas to complete their newspaper. Others sometimes struggle to complete 14 pages with interesting content because not much has happened that month. If you are lacking inspiration, here are some ideas to help you fill your Tribu newspaper. You’re welcome.

GAMES

We all know that grandparents enjoy puzzle games. If you know that your Grandma or Grandpa likes these kinds of games, you could add one or maybe several; so they don’t have to fight over it. List of potential games: wordsearch, crossword puzzle, number puzzle, Sudoku, Kemaru, Kakuro, Rikudo, anagrams …

🔍 Where to find ? Type on Google “Grid games” or find some websites such as Sudoku game (https://sudoku.game/hard), Crossword Puzzle, Kemaru, …

Tip ! Choose qualitative grids and large enough for the reader to complete the grid easily.

a joke a day keeps the doctor away

Why not crack a joke? A cool quiz about the family? A rebus? Riddles? Create your own soap and put a cliffhanger at the end, so they long for more every month (okay this might be pushing it, but you get the idea right?).

Tip ! Don’t give away the solution just yet. Put the solution in next month’s Tribu. This will keep everybody busy!

DID YOU KNOW ?

What is your reader passionate about? Try to find a “fun fact”, an unusual story, a news item that he/she doesn’t know yet. Describe it to him/her. He/she will probably be surprised to see that you are interested in his/her passion!

DAY-TO-DAY

Why not add photos of your daily life, from the picture of you half asleep, to a blurry picture of you chasing your kid? You don’t need a super-active life to immortalize those little moments that may seem trivial but can be a lot of fun to look at for a grandparent.

DRAWINGS

Children make drawings, a lot of them. Impossible for us parents to keep them all. But I bet your grandparents love looking at every one of them. Take a photo and immortalize them in your family newspaper (then throw them away – or just keep the very good ones).

it’s a cake

If you are lucky, you have someone in your family who loves baking. Maybe encourage them to share his/her recipes in your newspapers? We are not responsible for drooling marks on your newspapers.

whatever you do, just have fun !

HEIF FORMAT : TO KEEP OR TO CONVERT?

HEIF FORMAT : TO KEEP OR TO CONVERT?

TRIBU, A COMPANY WITH VALUES

The High-Efficiency Image File format (HEIF) was developed in 2015 by the Moving Picture Experts Group. It allows an image or a sequence of images to be stored in a single file. Photos taken in this new format have a better quality. It is optimised to be as light as possible by storing images at twice the compression rate of JPEG images without reducing the level of detail of the photos.

There are many variants of the HEIF format. The HEIC format is one dedicated to Apple devices with the IOS 11 operating system or higher. It is simply a renaming to make files from an Apple device more easily identifiable.

Difference : JPEG – HEIF

The JPEG format is used worldwide and is widely used on the web because the file size is generally quite small. But what is the difference with HEIF?

  • Zooming: since HEIF image quality is much better, zooming will be much sharper than with JPEG (where at a certain point the picture becomes blurry).
  • Image style: HEIF can combine moving and still images (Live Photo, GIF). JPEG, on the other hand, can only produce still images.
  • Weight: as previously stated, on an identical shot, the HEIF format will be twice as light as the JPEG format.
  • Editing: you can edit your photos (rotate, crop, etc.) without degrading the quality, which is still a big problem with photos in JPEG format.
  • Protection: the HEIC format preserves multi-layer information such as transparency or depth of field, which is not possible with JPEG.

How to convert a HEIF format into a JPEG?

The HEIF format contains more information than JPEG but weighs less. However, if you want to share your HEIF images on the web, you will need to convert them to JPEG to ensure full support. On the Mac, it is quick to convert a HEIF format to JPEG using the Preview application. Go to the File tab > Export… Then select the JPEG format and save.

On the PC, there are several free online programs that can convert HEIC photos to JPEG. For example, the free online software Convertio works well but will slightly reduce the level of detail in the photos.

Few platforms are currently compatible with the HEIF format. Whatsapp, Messenger, Instagram automatically convert your photos to JPEG format, which leads to a loss of quality. If you want to share your photos without loss of quality, there are a few platforms that are compatible with this format, and we recommend one: Tribe. It will allow you to create a photo album without having to convert them all to JPEG. You can choose to receive the digital version of the album or the paper version. The best thing about this platform is that you can co-create the album with several family members. If you don’t know what to do with all your photos in HEIF format, go to the Tribu website to create your family album!

We advise you to keep the HEIF format to keep qualitative photos and then share them in a photo album to share with your family.

TRIBU, A COMPANY WITH VALUES

TRIBU, A COMPANY WITH VALUES

TRIBU, A COMPANY WITH VALUES

Best things often happen when you least expect them. It is also what happened with Tribu. The original idea was to please my grandma and to recreate links within the family.

Tri-what?

When my grandpa died, I was really scared that my grandma would feel alone. As a matter of fact, I decided to send her personalised postcards in order to share with her my best family moments.  Those postcards made her feel so happy, so I decided to go further. Then I started to unite the whole family pictures that I had in order to create, each month, a personalised journal that she even decided to recall as “my small tribe”. She was so proud of her grandson that her friends were very jealous of her. (she never stopped talking about this excellent idea). This is how Tribu was founded.

When I saw that my grandma was super happy when she was receiving her journal, I told myself that it would be a great idea to expand it to other grandparents that would love to have some news of their children. So I decided to go on and launch Tribu in 2016, with the help of my colleague Mathieu.

A great adventure, but..

It was really important to us that Tribu be a unique company that defends values that are extremely important to us. And it never changed, the values we praise are family, fun and sincerity.

How are those values reflected within the company?

Family: the globality of our co-workers grants a lot of importance to family. Within a family, we do not judge, we accept differences and we’re caring for each other. It’s the same things within Tribu, we have the same relationships of our family in our everyday life at Tribu. During recruitment, all employees participate in the decision-making process so that everyone feels concerned and comfortable with the decision that has been made. Working hours are flexible and everyone can leave his work in order to mix his professional and personal life. Finally, while discussing with our customers, we always want that these exchanges take place in a caring, honest and family atmosphere.

Fun: the important thing at Tribu is to thrive, try new things and not being afraid to go back while needed. It is also essential that every co-workers feels great and enthusiastic regarding the future challenges. To dare: this is what counts at Tribu. Humour is an integral part of the Tribu experience, whether in our offices, in the way we communicate or in our interactions with our customers.

Sincerity: being loyal to oneself in order to stay loyal towards others. Sincerity belongs to transparency. We’re honest towards each other whether towards our customers, our suppliers, our collaborators. Within our team, transparency is particularly important with regard to salaries and company figures. With our customers, we don’t hesitate to admit our mistakes and apologise.

BEING AN INTERN AT TRIBU VOLUME 1

BEING AN INTERN AT TRIBU VOLUME 1

BEING AN INTERN AT TRIBU VOLUME 1

Who are you? (studies, hobbies, qualities and defects, missions at Tribu)

Ludovic : “I’m called Ludovic, I’m 25. I’ve done my internship at Tribu for 4 months at the beginning of 2020. My missions were based on the creation of the Tribu’s box and to minimise the costs of sending albums”

Jules : “My name is Jules, I studied economics and management for 5 years. I am passionate about cooking and music. At Tribu, I was in charge of conducting an Explort internship which consists of doing a feasibility study for penetrating the American market.”

Jade : “My name is Jade, I am 23 years old and I did my internship at Tribu from February to June 2019. After the baccalaureate, I did a 2-year BTS in communication and then I joined the ISCOM (communication school) for 3 more years of study to complete my career.

It was during my 4th year of study in communication that I joined the Tribu team for 4 months. I was in charge of managing social networks and setting up a newsletter.

How were you feeling before starting your internship? What were your expectations?

Jules : “The day before my internship, I was kind of stressed. I really wanted to bring a result to Tribu. My stress went down little by little thanks to Mathieu and Arnaud who were very present for me. I had the possibility to question them at any time which was beneficial for my training as well as stress management.”

Jade : “I couldn’t wait more to start this new experience and to discover the team. I was also a bit stressed but this feeling quickly disappeared when I met Tribu’s team, at the time, composed of Mathieu, Arnaud and 4 or 5 other trainees of the same age as me. I immediately felt that I was going to spend a great training course, to progress a lot but also to have a lot of fun in this small team full of kindness and humour! “

Did the internship meet your expectations?

Ludo : “Yep! At first I wanted to have a real approach to the world’s work. The internship answered it perfectly. The familial environment helped me a lot. We have a lot of freedom concerning the work you’re taking on. With the box project that I launched, I had the possibility to put in place some logistics and some supply chain sectors that I really like”.

Jules : “I was supposed to go to NYC for 3 months to implement the market research I had been preparing for a month and a half. Unfortunately, after 10 days there, COVID-19 putted an end to my stay. I was therefore forced to return to Belgium.”

Jade :” Totally! At the beginning of the internship, Mathieu and Arnaud let me choose the missions I wanted to work on: I therefore evolved a lot professionally in areas that I particularly liked. The structure of the company also allowed me to discover and work in other equally interesting areas (marketing, advertising, logistics, events, customer relations, etc.) to help my colleagues. I was lucky enough to be very well supported during my internship: Mathieu and Arnaud are very attentive and always open to share their knowledge and experience. It was 4 months that went by very quickly and that taught me a lot!”

In 3 words, how would you describe your internship at Tribu?

Ludo : “Fun, family, heart-warmer”

Jules : “Autonomy, proactivity, adaptation”

Jade :” Evolution, kindness and laughter”.

What are your thoughts about the kind of management used at Tribu?

Ludo : “It was the first time that I was experiencing it. I loved how they trusted us during the whole duration of the internship. We have a lot of freedom. The other interns and I were motivated about coming to work early in the morning. “

Jules : “I am fully convinced that Tribu’s management system is excellent. It allows you to be autonomous in your work while benefiting from support and follow-up from Arnaud and Mathieu. When I was an intern, I presented my activities and the objectives I wanted to achieve. Every week we discussed my work and what was driving me. This framework was very empowering and motivating.”

Jade : “It’s a management style that is becoming more and more widespread in companies, and it’s perfect for taking responsibility, evolving, gaining self-confidence and daring to express yourself freely. It was during my internship at Tribu that I discovered this management style and it has become an important criterion in my other internship, work-study and now job searches.”

What are the skills you gained thanks to the internship?

Jules : ”Thanks to this internship, I am more agile, I have better communication with customers and suppliers. I was also able to improve my canvassing skills.”

Jade : “Soft skills: organisation (I always had a to-do list around to have a visual of the tasks ahead of me), versatility (by carrying out my tasks but also by helping others with theirs, by taking part in each other’s meetings…), teamwork (I often brainstormed with the whole team to come up with ideas to feed the social networks, and what came out of this was always very interesting: it was as a team that we came up with the best ideas!)

Hard skills: Social media management, emailing, content production, video editing, communication strategy…”

Name one thing you loved about your internship?

Jules :”I loved being able to choose my own missions. I loved the support there was. I loved being able to travel abroad. I loved the work atmosphere. I loved the love we got from the clients.”

Jade : “I loved many things about my internship at Tribu! I am thinking in particular of guerrilla marketing: a day in the streets of Louvain-la-Neuve with Mathieu and Arnaud disguised as grandparents to increase the company’s visibility! I also really appreciated Arnaud and Mathieu’s support: there were regular meetings to accompany us in our missions but also to talk about how we felt within the team, to find solutions, to unblock situations… It’s very pleasant to be supervised in this way when you’re on an internship and you’re there above all to learn!

An anecdote to share?

Jade : “I watched the Game of Thrones 7 season summary so I could watch the last season with the Tribe team in the premises! We set up beanbags against the windows so we could be immersed in the dark like in the movies! It was great!”

What would you say to our next interns?

Ludo : ”We are really well supervised, we have a lot of freedom. Mathieu and Arnaud insist on the fact that you have to be in line with the company’s values. Every time I came to the course I knew I was going to have a good day. There is a strong team spirit, no one is left out. There are different personalities and everyone has their place in the company. “

Jules :”Go to Tribu! Their project is beautiful. The work is motivating and empowering. The atmosphere is great. You will leave with a real professional and human experience.”

Jade : “I would tell them to make the most of this experience to increase their skills and not to hesitate to ask questions, propose and test their ideas…”

What if you’ll do it again?

Ludo: “Of course! “

Jules : “I would definitely go back !! “

Jade : “I wouldn’t change anything! Except maybe the length of my internship so I can see even more of Tribu’s evolution.”

HOW TO SHARE YOUR PICTURES WITHOUT LOSING QUALITY?

HOW TO SHARE YOUR PICTURES WITHOUT LOSING QUALITY?

HOW TO SHARE YOUR PICTURES WITHOUT LOSING QUALITY?

If taking photos like a professional is child’s play for you, it’s a pity to see that our most beautiful pictures lose quality when we share them via Whatsapp, Messenger, Instagram,… These messaging services compress images to speed up their transfer.

In this article, I give you 5 solutions that will allow you to send photos and videos to your family and friends without losing their original quality.

Website via the email address
Websites such as Swiss Transfer, Wetransfer or Smash allow you to transfer large files using only the receiver’s email address. These platforms are 100% free of charge, with no advertising and no registration. These solutions work on both computers and smartphones and are extremely easy to use.

Cloud storage
It is possible to import your photos into a remote storage system, the Cloud. This is a secure solution, offering you a large storage capacity and avoiding the risk of hacking or losing your data. However, sharing your photos in the cloud can be a bit of a challenge. In Google Drive, for example, you have to import the photos, create a folder, and then share that folder with the person. The best alternative to these storage platforms is Google Photos. Its interface is intuitive and convenient and allows you to share photos with many people with a single click.

Transfer via a hardware medium
The “old school” solution is to transfer via a hardware medium such as a USB stick or an external hard drive. However, this solution has many drawbacks. The major disadvantage is that you cannot send photos to people far away from you. This solution can also be expensive, very unreliable or insecure. Anyone can access your USB stick or hard drive and technical failure is possible.

Nearby sharing
When two people are close to each other, they can send photos to each other via “proximity sharing”, a feature available on smartphones. This solution is fast, secure and works without the need for internet, but it also has some disadvantages. It only works on devices with the same operating system. For example, it is only possible to share photos between Apple devices using AirDrop. In parallel, Android devices can share photos with each other using the Nearby Share feature.

Tribu-solution
Tribu is the perfect solution for sharing your most beautiful photos with your loved ones. Simply import your photos onto the platform, create your album, and it will be sent every month to the person of your choice in a printed version. Your memories will be shared with your loved ones in their original quality and you will have an everlasting memory of them.
